A 6-Week Movie & TV Writing Enrichment Program
What if your child could take an idea from their imagination and begin bringing it to life on the page?
From Idea to Screen is a fun, hands-on after-school enrichment program where young storytellers explore how movie and television stories are created. Over six weeks, students will develop an original story idea, create memorable characters, explore plot and conflict, experiment with dialogue, and bring the pieces together in a short scripted scene or age-appropriate story project.
Through guided creative activities, writing, discussion, and collaboration, students will strengthen their creativity, communication, and storytelling skills while building confidence in their own creative voice.
No prior writing or screenwriting experience is needed. Just imagination!

An Enrichment Program
Designed For Their Age
Grades K-2: Our youngest storytellers explore movie and TV storytelling through drawing, imagination, oral storytelling, guided writing, and collaborative activities. The focus is on developing creativity and learning the building blocks of a great story in a way that feels fun and accessible for beginning writers.
Grades 3-5: Older students take their storytelling a step further by developing original characters, exploring plot and conflict, experimenting with dialogue, and creating a short scripted scene. The focus is on creative storytelling rather than technical screenplay formatting.

Students jump into the world of movie and TV storytelling by dreaming up fun, adventurous, mysterious—or totally unexpected—story possibilities and begin developing an original idea of their own.

WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 28
Who's at the center of your story?
Students bring an original main character to life, exploring personality, wants, strengths, quirks, and the details that make a character worth watching.

UH-OH... PLOT TWIST!
WEEK OF OCTOBER 12
Things were going so well... until they weren't.
Every good story needs a little trouble! Students discover how problems, obstacles, and surprises make stories exciting as they decide what stands between their character and what they want.

wait... did they just say that?!
WEEK OF OCTOBER 19
It's time to give those characters a voice.
Students explore dialogue and discover how what characters say (and how they say it) can reveal personality, emotion, relationships, and what a character wants.

Now it's starting to look like a movie!
Students bring character, conflict, action, and dialogue together as they transform a moment from their developing story into an original scene.

From one little idea to something they created themselves.
Students put the finishing touches on their creative projects and bring their stories to life through an age-appropriate sharing experience, celebrating their journey from the first spark of an idea to a scene of their own.

Hi, I'm Ms. Bri!
I'm a teaching artist, produced screenwriter, author, and actress wit a passion for storytelling and helping young people discover the power of their own ideas.
I created From Idea to Screen to give young storytellers a fun and encouraging space to explore the creative process behind movie and television writing. My goal is for students to strengthen their storytelling skills, build confidence in their creative voices, and most importantly, have fun bringing their imaginations to life!

Parent FAQs
Does my child need previous writing or screenwriting experience?
Not at all! From Idea to Screen is designed for students with a variety of writing experience. Activities are adapted for each age group, and no previous screenwriting experience is necessary.
Is this an acting class?
No. This is a storytelling and movie/TV writing enrichment program. Students may have opportunities to read, share, or bring their scenes to life, but acting experience is not required.
Will my child write an entire script?
No. The goal isn't to complete a feature-length script or learn complicated professional formatting. Students will explore the foundations of screen storytelling while developing an age-appropriate original story project and scene.
How large are the classes?
Enrollment is limited to 8 students per class to create a small-group environment where students can receive guidance and have opportunities to participate and share.
What happens during Fall Break?
There will be no class during the CCS Fall Break. K-2 will not meet October 5 and Grades 3-5 will not meet October 8. Each group will still receive six complete class sessions.
